ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A new ditch safety campaign was unveiled in Albuquerque Tuesday, along with new mascots.
Young people have been told constantly that ditches are deadly, but some aren’t listening.
“Drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children in New Mexico we encourage all parents to register their kids for swim lessons we have $25 swim lessons that go for two weeks and always swim in a place with lifeguards and in arms reach of a parent,” Brandon Gibson, aquatics division manager, said.
The city will also be issuing more than 50,000 pool passes to kids this summer as a way to encourage them to learn to swim.
As part of the new campaign, the old slogan “Ditches are Deadly” has been replaced with Ditch the Ditches campaign and these ditch critters.
