Copper theft suspect bonds out of jail

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police say a man busted for stealing copper from an apartment complex is already out of jail.

Chris Lopez, 45, was arrested Sunday in northwest Albuquerque.

APD says when they arrived at the aspen apartments near Irving and Eagle Ranch, they found Lopez with a role of copper tubing.

Police say they also found a stolen, loaded handgun in Lopez’s pants.

He’s also suspected in other copper thefts across Albuquerque. But Lopez was able to post bond less than 24 hours after being booked.

The theft will cost the apartments around $24,000 in damages. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
