ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Three kids living in filth – that’s how deputies described a recent house call.
The deputies were sent to the home to investigate a death, but found a whole lot more.
Now the father of the kids is locked up.
According to the criminal complaint, when deputies responded to a call of a deceased person in the South Valley – there was a strong odor coming from the home, but it wasn’t what deputies expected.
The complaint states deputies responded to a home Saturday near Gun Club and Isleta.
Once inside the home, deputies say they found what appeared to be animal feces on the floor and the beds.
They say the entire kids bedroom was covered in feces and the rest of the home was filthy.
Once detectives learned children were living there, they arrested their father, 44-year-old Terry Cunningham, for child abuse and neglect.
Cunningham faced a judge Sunday morning and is being held on a $15,000 cash or surety bond.
The judge also ruled if Cunningham wants to see or talk to his kids he needs to go through the Children, Youth and Families Department.
In the complaint, there’s no mention as to what led to the person’s death – the initial reason deputies were called out to the home.
