Man arrested, accused of vehicular homicide

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A 60-year-old man has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and great bodily harm by a vehicle after police say he allegedly hit another man with his car and left the scene. The 57-year-old victim died at the scene.

Officers with the Hobbs Police Department say they were dispatched to the 4100 block of North Lovington Highway around 8:30 p.m. Saturday due to a man laying in the road. When they arrived, police say Henry Padilla was found dead and his injuries were consistent with being hit by a vehicle.

Witnesses who saw the incident were able to give police a license plate and vehicle description. They found the suspect, Jose Losoya, in Lovington and say he smelled of intoxicants.

Losoya was booked into the Hobbs City Jail on a $20,000 bond.
