Young bear captured in Bernalillo

BERNALILLO, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico Game and Fish captured a young bear in Bernalillo Thursday.

They say he was first spotted at around 6:30 a.m.

It ran up this cottonwood tree and was eventually tranquilized.

He weighs about 110 pounds.

Game and Fish said it either made its way down from the Jemez Mountains or the Sandias.

It will be released in the Jemez Mountains.

This is the time of year when bears wake up from hibernation and start looking for food.

Game and Fish is warning people to secure their trash cans and birdfeeders.
