Man fined $6K for poaching deer

SANTA CLARA, N.M. (KRQE) – A 30-year-old Santa Clara man has been fined for poaching a deer in Grant County.

The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish says Daniel Gomez was ordered to pay $6,000 for the January 2013 killing of a trophy buck.

Gomez said he killed the deer in one unit, but several residents have video of the same deer in another unit, where Gomez did not have a valid hunting license. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
