Elderly woman bound while family home ransacked

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department is looking for three men involved in a home invasion Thursday morning.

“This isn’t a typical burglary,” said Capt. Adan Mendoza with the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department.

Mendoza says the thieves tied up an elderly woman who was inside the house and then they took off with a large amount of cash.

“They threw her on the bed and she had limited visibility,” Mendoza said. “They bound her and they proceeded to ransack the residence, looking for items.”

The woman managed to free herself enough to call 911.

The Sheriff’s Department says they don’t know if the three men knew someone would be home.

They’re also looking into whether the thieves may have known there was a large amount of cash in the house. At this point, they’re not accused of taking any other items.

The woman was taken to the hospital and was expected to be released Thursday night.

The Sheriff’s Department is working on creating a description of the suspects.
