ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A new baby has been born at the Rio Grande Zoo.

A 6-year-old Sichuan Takin named Zhu gave birth to a healthy kid last week.

So what is a Takin?

It is native to the rocky slopes of the Himalayas.

They’re related to sheep and goats.

They are threatened in the wild because of poaching and loss of habitat.

You can find Zhu and her new baby in the exhibits near the rhinos and the zebras. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
