Video of Roswell bean bag shooting goes viral

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Video of a police shooting in Roswell is getting a lot of attention on social media.

This incident happened earlier this month and was posted on Facebook.

The video was taken by a bystander watching as officers appear to shoot the man; turns out they weren’t real shots but bean bags.

Police say the man was suicidal and armed with a knife.

The man was taken into custody without being harmed, prompting comments praising the police for using non-lethal tactics.

This comes as the Albuquerque police department faces criticism for the number of deadly police shootings and it’s dealings with the mentally ill. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
