NM officers honor those killed on duty

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The annual memorial service to honor New Mexico police officers killed in the line of duty was held in Santa Fe Wednesday.

Each year the ceremony is dedicated to a particular officer and this year it was Sandoval County Sheriff Sergeant Robert Baron who was killed when a car slid into him in December while investigating a traffic accident on I-25.

Emotions ran high today not only for his family, but for the families of other fallen lawmen and women.

Baron had been with the department for seven years

Nearly 200 officers are on the New Mexico memorial list.
