Memorial honors fallen officers

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The state is honoring officers who have died in the line of duty Wednesday.

The annual New Mexico Law Enforcement Memorial Service was held in Santa Fe.

The memorial this year paid special tribute to Sandoval County Sheriff Sgt. Robert Baron who was killed when a car slid into him in December while investigating a traffic accident on I-25.

“The burdens that we ask peace officers and their families to bear and the sacrifices we ask them to make are profoundly more grave than the sacrifices asked of the rest of us,” said Greg Fouratt, secretary of DPS.

Baron had been with the department for seven years. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
