Former candidate pleads no contest to stalking

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A former congressional candidate caught on tape slashing the tires of an opponent has pleaded no contest to felony stalking.

Gary Smith was seen at the home of Janice Arnold Jones in 2012, puncturing her tires.

After he was arrested and charged, Smith was allegedly caught on camera again, driving by her home even though a judge ordered him to stay away.

Before the incidents, Jones filed a lawsuit to get smith kicked off the ballot.

She argued that some of the signatures he got to put him there were invalid and a judge agreed.

Smith faces sentencing in two weeks. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
