Efforts to boost wolf population underway

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A unique program to grow the wolf population in the wild is underway.

The litter of an experienced female pack is being cross-fostered.

That basically means they’re being moved from one litter to another, in the hopes that the receiving pack will raise them as their own and make the whole population stronger.

Wildlife officials will monitor the pups as they grow.

If the pack does well officials say they will be moved to the Gila Wilderness early this summer.
