APD: Lapel video of shooting can’t be retrieved

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque Police has released video of the deadly shooting of a young woman, but it is what is missing that stands out.

Police Chief Gorden Eden has said a 19-year-old suspected truck thief pointed a gun at close range at Officer Jeremy Dear before he shot and killed her last month.

On Wednesday, APD confirmed Dear has no lapel video of that and neither do any of his fellow officers.

An APD spokesperson confirms Dear was the only one at the scene during the actual shooting.

APD said it released all the lapel video it has from the police shooting last month.

There is video as police searched for the suspected truck thief near Zuni and Wyoming and video from other cops after Dear shot and killed her but nothing of the shooting in between.

Records show Dear was punished last year for failing to turn on his lapel camera.

In this case, police can’t or won’t say if Dear didn’t turn it on like he says he did, citing an internal affairs investigation.

APD said Dear is on desk duty as it continues that investigation.
