Funeral home has new take on YOLO

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – There has been buzz about some new billboards in town.

A local funeral home says it is part of a campaign it is launching to get people talking.

It reads, “YODO.”

It stands for “you only die once”, a new take on YOLO, which stands for “you only live once.”Funeral home has new take on YOLO 3

French Funerals & Cremations said a handful of billboards with different slogans started going up in Albuquerque and Rio Rancho last month.

Other slogans include, “cross over without crossing the river” and “carpe di end.”

The century-old company behind the billboards said it is doing something new and a little less somber.

“We didn’t want to focus on, ‘We’re here for you when you need us.’ We want to focus on living passionately, celebrating life and how do we now take control and create that conversation-starting moment for people,” said Tom Antram, president and CEO of French Funerals.

Conversation-starting moments like these.

“You only die once?” asked Arturo Siqueiros. “I guess depending on what religion you belong to.”

“That’s it? That’s it?” Sorya Diamond asked. “It just says YODO?”

Brandon Kvech chimed in with the translation, “You only die once.”

“Oh my goodness! That’s terrible,” Diamond said.

“It’s clever,” Kvech said.

The different slogans will be rotating on metro billboards through the end of the year.
