DWI charge issued to sheriff’s investigator

LUNA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A sheriff’s investigator from Luna County has been charged with DWI.

According to the Deming Headlight, the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on April 19.

Israel Saenz was found asleep at the wheel of his truck at a McDonald’s drive-through and stated that he did not know how he got there.

Saenz was not arrested that night, and was driven home by a citizen.

After reviewing the case, the district attorney’s office decided a DWI charge was warranted.

The sheriff says Saenz has been put on desk duty and the department is conducting an internal investigation to determine Saenz’s future with the department.
