City to host NRA competition for police officers

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – In the wake of the DOJ investigation, and angry protests over all the police shootings, the National Police Shooting Championships is coming to Albuquerque.

The city and APD will host the NRA competition in September for officers.

Hundreds of police officers and deputies from around the world compete to see who shoots the best.

While the city has hosted the event before, it comes at a time when APD is being highly criticized for its use of excessive force.

Recently, demonstrators shut down an Albuquerque City Council meeting and forced riot police to fire tear gas during a police shooting protest.
