LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – On Monday, the White House confirmed President Barack Obama will sign a proclamation designating the Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks as a national monument.

Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich introduced an act to conserve the Organ Mountains in December.

As a national monument, nearly 500,000 acres in the Organ Mountain area will be protected. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
