Mayor’s aims to create downtown ‘entertainment hub’

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The mayor wants to spur new development in downtown Albuquerque.

He told business leaders Monday that the city will offer a nearly two-acre spot at First Street and Central to create an “entertainment hub.”

The city-owned property is valued at around $1.5 million and is across the street from the Century 14 movie theater.

Mayor R.J. Berry says the city will either sell the land or lease it to a developer.

That would depend on the interest generated during a request for proposals.

The RFP will come in the next couple of weeks. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
