ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – When talking about the Mountain West Baseball Tournament Lobos skipper Ray Birmingham said,”From top to bottom anybody can beat anybody. It’s been a very good league.”
The suspense starts Wednesday.
The Mountain West regular season co champion Lobos get a bye until Thursday along with the other co champion and top seed UNLV. The Lobos won the tournament in 2011 and 2012 and would like nothing more than to hold the championship trophy in 2014.
Birmingham believes his team has yet to reach their potential but, feels they are capable.
“What if we all played great defense, we all took good at bats and we all pitched well to a man, said Birmingham, “If that happens and we do catch fire we got a shot at omaha. And, I think we can pull that off.”
The Lobos first game at the tournament has a 4 p.m. mountain start time Thursday.
