DWI crash closes I-25 for six hours

SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Police responded to an early-morning crash Saturday that involved a wrong-way driver and a FedEx semi on southbound I-25 near mile marker 260.

Police say a tan passenger vehicle was driving north on the southbound lanes and collided with the semi. Neither driver was seriously injured.

According to the state police officer on scene, the driver of the passenger vehicle, 20-year-old Elizabeth Elliot of Louisiana, was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Elliot was booked into the Sandoval County Detention Center and was charged with DWI, reckless driving, regulation of sales and service to minors, and presenting false evidence of age.

The area on I-25 was shut down for six hours. The crash is still under investigation.
