ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A trial date has been set for a man accused of molesting a 6-year-old and then gunning down the child’s father.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Edward Quintana says he shot and killed Jason Estrada outside Estrada’s west side home last year in self defense.

Quintana says Estrada was trying to stab him.

But, the murdered man’s family says Quintana killed Estrada after the father confronted him about allegedly raping his young son.

It turns out Quintana was a confidential informant for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration at the time of the killing.

The victim’s family is currently suing the DEA and the Department of Justice.

Thursday a judge set a court date for the murder charges for November 3rd.

That case and the child rape case are being handled separately. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
