Mark’s Thursday Evening Forecast

Our steady warm-up continued on Thursday with temperatures jumping into the mid 70s in the Albuquerque metro area. Temps will continue to rise Friday and through the weekend as well. Highs will eventually top out in the high 80s as we head through next week.

The big concern as we work our way through the next few days will be rising fire danger. As those temperatures continue to rise moisture levels will plummet and winds will start to increase as well.

This will likely lead to widespread red flag warnings. And given that were in the late portion of May and we’ve been dry for a period of months the fire danger will be off the charts just about everywhere with the exception of the northern mountains.

There is the possibility of a storm rolling in late next week but at this point that storm looks weaker than we would like to see it.

On a positive note the long-term outlook is out as far as precipitation goes. It does show wetter than average conditions on the way from New Mexico this summer. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
