Injured service dog recovering well in Colorado

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A service dog severely hurt in a suspected drunk driving crash is going to live out the rest of his life as a pampered pet.

KRQE News 13 told you about Tango back in March when he was thrown from an SUV his then owner was driving near the Route 66 Casino.

Freedom Service Dogs of Colorado who raised Tango took him back a few weeks ago and News 13 has learned he’s recovering well.

He won’t be able to return to service so instead the group says they’ll take really good care of him.

If charged with a DWI, Tango’s previous owner could face extreme animal cruelty charges. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
