Clovis man sentenced to life in prison for 2011 murder

CLOVIS, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who murdered his neighbors at a cookout in Clovis back in 2011 has been sentenced to life in prison.

Enrique Deleon opened fire at a barbecue hosted by 44-year-old Joe Valero and 25-year-old Lupita Casteneda apparently after an argument over gangs.

Valero died at the scene and Casteneda died later at the hospital.

The shooting happened in front of the victim’s two kids.

Deleon must serve at least 30 years before he’s eligible for parole.
