Theft suspect caught on camera in $10K heist

SANTA FE (KRQE) – A thief gets past an elaborate home security system pulling off a $10,000 but he wasn’t counting on all the cameras capturing him on tape.

Santa Fe police say this man wasn’t out on a morning walk earlier this month.

He was looking for a way into a Santa Fe home on Don Gasper which is covered in cameras.

He eventually got in the homeowners believe through a back door.

“My wife’s mother made these pieces for her, they can’t be replaced. She has since passed away,” the homeowner said. “My wife’s jewelry when she was baptized 40 years ago.”

The thief took off with about $10,000 dollars worth of gold jewelry.

But, cameras caught him leaving his DNA behind. He was seen picking up a bottle that’s now being tested.

While plenty of clues were left on the cameras the homeowners who don’t want to be identified said they’re on high alert all the time now.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the thief’s arrest and conviction.

The homeowner is also offering $500 to help catch the crook.
