Pediatrician arrested for child sex crimes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man who made a living working around children as a pediatrician has been arrested for child sex crimes.

Juan Eduardo Torres-Santos, 41, was a practicing pediatrician in two other states and was waiting for his clearance to start seeing kids in New Mexico but he was arrested Tuesday morning for child porn.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies said Torres-Santos downloaded three child porn videos onto his computer at his northeast Albuquerque home.

According to a criminal complaint Torres-Santos said he watched the illegal videos as part of his research, to help diagnose child sex victims.

However, detectives said he is the only one who knew about that research. The complaint said not even his wife, who KRQE learned is also a doctor, knew about the research.

Neighbors KRQE News 13 spoke with were stunned to hear the allegations.

“That’s disgusting to me, yeah, so just knowing that I’m completely shocked,” Mike Cheves said. “He shouldn’t be practicing here as far as I can think.”

The complaint states Torres-Santos was a practicing pediatrician in Pennsylvania and Texas.

He told detectives he was waiting for his green card to start practicing in New Mexico in the fall.
