NM school to hire resource officer

PORTALES, N.M. (KRQE) – The Portales school board and the police department have agreed to put a school resource officer back into the high school next year.

This comes just 3 years after their former officer, Victor Castillo, was arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student.

None of the schools have had a resource officer since the incident.

School officials say it’s because there wasn’t enough funding.

The superintendent says a video camera will be installed in the new resource officer’s office.
