SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – Fans of the show, CBS News’ Sunday Morning will appreciate this one. The anchor of the national broadcast, Charles Osgood, is here in New Mexico filming a special show set to air this weekend.
KRQE News 13 got a sneak peek Tuesday in Santa Fe.
CBS News’ Sunday Morning is one of the most popular programs on morning T.V. From the culture to the cuisine, Osgood told News 13, there are plenty of reasons why show producers picked Santa Fe as the centerpiece for this weekend’s show.
Santa Fe’s La Casa Sena restaurant was the first location to transform into a television set for a special CBS Sunday Morning broadcast, with long-time host, Charles Osgood.
“Every year we have a design show and we go somewhere, I really like that because I’m normally tied to the studio,” said Osgood. “They put a ball and chain on my foot so I can’t go anywhere,” he laughed.
Osgood has anchored CBS News Sunday Morning for 20 years. Tuesday, his stop at La Casa Sena was the first of several local attractions.
The chilly weather, even snowflakes, were a stark contrast from his usual sunny in the southwest forecasts.
“I was a little bit surprised, but it proves that the southwest is getting even with us,” Osgood joked.
Lights, cameras, La Casa Sena’s courtyard was equipped with a full crew set-up. But the first order of business was of course, tasting some local food, in this case muffins with green chile.
“I have no problem with spicy foods and I’m told that you got lots of that,” said Osgood.
The show will feature art, culture, local cuisine and features from across the globe, such as New York and Paris.
So why pick Santa Fe as the focal point?
“Everything, the architecture and all that is all based on the history of the place and it has a lot of character to it, that’s what we really like,” said Osgood.
Osgood has seen and told lots of stories in his career and will spend this week exploring the heart of New Mexico.
“It’s a great way to be a tourist, taking it all in,” he said. “I can’t imagine anything that would be more pleasurable as work than to get to do what I do,” explained Osgood. “I have to pinch myself, how did this ever happen? But I’m really happy that it did.”
It’s the part of his job he loves, and can’t imagine doing anything else. The CBS Sunday Morning crew will be filming in Santa Fe until Thursday, then Osgood heads back to New York to the show’s home-base.
The design show featuring Santa Fe will air this weekend, starting Sunday morning at 8.
