(ALBUQUERQUE) KRQE – Zach Gentry is taking his quarterbacking skills to the University of Texas. The highly touted Eldorado High School junior has given the Longhorns a verbal commitment.
Gentry passed on a host of other schools, including Alabama, for a chance to become a member of the Longhorns. Texas coach Charlie Strong was recruiting Gentry when he was still the coach at Louisville. Strong resumed his recruiting of Gentry when he left for Texas.
That loyalty meant a lot to Gentry and factored into his decision. “It was a little surprising to me honestly,” said Gentry, “because you know it’s not very often that a staff from Louisville goes into a place like Texas you know with all of the tradition of recruiting there and offers a person right away from New Mexico. It just shows that they think highly of me and I think highly of them.”
Gentry believes he is a good fit for the type of offense Texas will run. Gentry has thrown for over 36 hundred yards the past two seasons.
