Reading program to help rural communities

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A program called Step Into Reading was launched Monday to help children in New Mexico raise their reading scores by having more books at their disposal.

The program is designed to help children in rural communities.

The program was created by the New Mexico Parent Teacher Association who set a goal of collecting 450,000 books.

The PTA wants to encourage the public to get involved by holding book drives of their own. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
