Judge denies Mendez’s bid to reduce sentence

Bid to reduce sentence denied in fatal DWI case

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A drunk driver sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing two people was in front of a judge Friday morning asking him to reduce her sentence.

Stephanie Mendez killed two of her passengers when she lost control on the on-ramp to I-25 from Montgomery in 2011.

Mendez fled to the Navajo Nation but family members eventually convinced her to turn herself in.

The judge denied her change of sentence request.
