Bear wanders into downtown Bernalillo

BERNALILLO, N.M. (KRQE) – A bear captured last year is now back where he belongs.

The bear was captured when it wandered into downtown Bernalillo.

New Mexico Game and Fish says he may have been looking for food, became scared, and went up a tree.

Once he was weighed, at 132 pounds, and measured, the bear was released in the Manzano Mountains south of Albuquerque.

Game and Fish is reminding New Mexicans that spring is the time when bears wake up from hibernation and start looking for food.

They say bears can wander into neighborhoods and it’s important for people to secure their trash cans and birdfeeders.
