Marathon winner disqualified from race

Marathon winner disqualfied from race

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The winner of the Orange County Marathon, who happens to be from New Mexico, has been disqualified because he received unauthorized assistance during the race.

Race officials say they recorded Mohamed Fadil being paced by a cyclist, being updated about other runners and being given water.

Fadil, who resides in Albuquerque, was disqualified Tuesday and officials threw out his race record time.

The disqualification makes Stephan Shay of Huntington Beach the men’s winner.

Fadil’s shenanigans to win the marathon even caused a protest.
