Man: Mason Campbell revealed plans prior to shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The 125- page state police report is out on the middle school shooting in Roswell and it seems to point to bullying as a motive.

A lot of witnesses mention bullying as a possible motive for 12-year-old Mason Campbell but state police still haven’t said it was a motive.

News 13 already knew from Campbell’s Facebok page that bullying was an issue with him.

And every time a witness, including his mother, mentions who the target may have been it’s blacked out in the report.

State police say they believe the shooting was random.

Of course Campbell walked in to the Berrendo Middle school gym in January with the shotgun hidden in a duffle bag.

He told family and friends it was stuffed with gym clothes.

The report states he warned a few friends they should probably leave the gym and then marched toward the bleachers and fired off a shot wounding two students.

After he was subdued on the floor witnesses say he cried that he was sorry and that he didn’t mean to hurt anybody.

Campbell has a hearing set for next week where his attorney says he’ll take full responsibility for his actions. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
