NMSP officers identified in Los Lunas shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – State police released the names of the officers who opened fire on a man who had been firing at them.

One of the officers has shot and killed two people before.

Friday night, 41-year-old Daniel Olguin fired as many as 80 rounds at state police during a five hour standoff.

Police used bean bags but it didn’t work.

That’s when state police says Sergeant Richard Matthews and Officers Michael Mariscal and Shane Todd opened fire hitting Olguin.

Olguin remains hospitalized.

In January, Officer Todd, a SWAT team sniper, shot and killed 40-year-old Ernest Atterberry in Moriarty after Atterberry allegedly fired at Torrance County deputies.

And last year, he killed 21-year-old Kendall Carroll who was wanted for wounding an APD officer.
