Hundreds trek to Questa to see miracle beam

QUESTA, N.M. (KRQE) – Hundreds of people are making the quest to Questa to see what they believe is a miracle at the old church in that northern New Mexico village.

Volunteers restoring the 170-year-old Saint Anthony Church recently cut a wooden beam and exposed what appears to be an image of the Virgin Mary cradling a lamb.

Since word got out, people from near and far have flocked to the church, including an Albuquerque man who drove three hours to see it.

The archdiocese wanted to tear the church down, but parishioners fought to save it and are now remodeling it with their own money.

For them the discovery of the image is a sign to go forward.

The beam will become part of the restoration and will be placed in an area where people can view it provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
