DEA cracks down on synthetic drugs

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The DEA has broadened its national crackdown on synthetic drugs by serving hundreds of warrant in at least 25 states including New Mexico.

Agents issued search and arrest warrants on manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of so called spice. They are going to homes, warehouses and even smoke shops.

A frightening factor in the synthetic drug market is where the money is going.

Investigators have tracked hundreds of millions of dollars to Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan.

Authorities have worried about criminal and terrorist groups in the middle east using drug trafficking to fund illicit activities. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
