Police: Roswell woman kidnapped, raped

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Roswell police are investigating a scary and random attack.

Monday around 9 a.m. Roswell police say a woman in her mid 20′s was walking to a park on Southeast Main Street when two men kidnapped her, raped her inside an apartment then threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

“It scares me to death,” said Vanessa York.

Investigators say Cody Hairston, 33, and Rodolfo Ronquillo, 50, were sitting outside Ronquillo’s home Monday morning when the woman walked by.

Police say Hairston pulled the victim into Ronquillo’s home and started to touch her.

The woman tried to escape but she says the men brought her back into the apartment.

That’s when she says Ronquillo forced her to have sex with him.

According to the criminal complaint, Hairston, who was carrying a gun in his waist band, told the woman if she ratted them out he would kill her.

Eventually, the victim was able to escape and run for help.

Police say the suspects and the victim did not know each other.

“We do believe it was a random crime,” said Roswell Police Commander William Brown.

The attack has left many people in the small community on edge.

“If somebody really grabbed me I don’t know if I could really do anything and probably a lot of women are like that,” said York.

According to police, both suspects admitted to talking with the victim, but denied having sex with her.

Police don’t believe there are any other victims, but the investigation is ongoing.
