Dog found shot recovering well, set for adoption

VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A dog found wandering in Valencia County appears to have been shot at least twice.

Someone found the lab mix Saturday morning.

Officials took him to a veterinary hospital in Albuquerque where he underwent several surgeries

Veterinarians say he had a few fractured ribs shrapnel in his leg and stomach area and they also found a fragment in his body that shows Gus had been shot before.

Gus, as he’s now named, is now at animal humane and will eventually be adopted out.

The director of adoptions says despite what he’s been through, he’s a friendly dog.

Gus is set to have another surgery Thursday before he can be put up for adoption.
