1 killed, 1 injured in rollover crash

ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. (KRQE) – Alcohol is suspected as a factor in a crash that killed one person and critically injured another Sunday night near Elephant Butte.

State police officers say a vehicle with three passengers was heading north on NM 195 when, for unknown reasons, it left the road and rolled.

The driver, 34-year-old Rey Cardenas of Derry, N.M, was ejected. He was transported to the hospital.

Passenger Crystal Prieto, 23, of Hatch N.M., was partially ejected and died at the scene. A 2-year-old in the vehicle was properly restrained and was not injured in the crash.
