Man dies after hours-long standoff

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – What began as a domestic dispute has led to an armed man barricading himself inside an Albuquerque residence Saturday.

Officials say that officers and SWAT responded to 10500 block of Coyote Canyon Place northwest just after noon when a woman called police stating that her husband was threatening her with a gun.

According to police the woman and the couple’s children were able to leave the home.

Police say the suspect refused to comply with police and that at least one CIT certified officer was on scene. A Bernalillo County Tactical Unit was also on scene.

Hours later police say shots were fired inside the home. Then the suspect emerged from the house with two handguns and began shooting at police.

APD said officers returned fire killing the suspect.

“At 6:16 p.m., the suspect exited the house and fired shots from two handguns. An APD officer discharged his weapon at that time. The subject is deceased,” APD Deputy Chief Garcia said.

Investigators are expected to continue their investigation for a good portion of the night.
