Wanted fugitive caught in ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A fugitive who skipped out during his trial last month has been caught.

Derek Malkhassian, 25, was taken into custody by U.S Marshals Thursday at an apartment in northeast Albuquerque.

He was on trial in district court on drug charges but during a lunch break, Malkhassian ran off.

Back in 2011 APD and U.S. Marshals arrested him after finding a meth lab inside a trailer on I-25 and Pan American Freeway as well as more than $8,000 worth of meth.

He was also found to be harboring a fugitive.

Malkhassian now faces new charges and a new trial.
