Carjacking ends in gunfire, suspect on loose

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque police are still looking for a carjacker, who not only stole a car, but shot the victim overnight.

It all happened in a pharmacy parking lot.

Police say the victim was shot several times in the chest and was transferred to UNM Hospital. His condition is stable.

Police responded to the CVS Pharmacy at Eubank and Menaul around midnight. They say the suspect tried to steal a man’s car and then shot him.

The thief was able to drive off with the car, a 2000 candy apple red Mercedes with custom rims. Police were able to located the stolen vehicle in the area of Claremont and Candelaria.

The store was open when it happened. Police are now talking to witnesses.

APD impact detectives have taken over the case, but they are not saying much else right now.

There is no description of the suspect or any indication whether this was a random attack.

Police haven’t said how many times he was shot or if he is expected to survive his injuries.

They couldn’t give a license plate number.
