African-American sorority coming to UNM

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A historically black sorority is making its way to New Mexico.

Alpha Kappa Alpha will soon make its home at the University of New Mexico.

This will make it the first undergraduate chapter at UNM and is the oldest Greek-letter sorority established by African American female students.

Some notable members include novelist Toni Morrison, jazz artist Cassandra Wilson and actress Phylicia Rashad who played Clair Huxtable on the Cosby Show. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
