DOJ investigation into APD prompts Phoenix investigation

PHOENIX, ARIZONA (KRQE) – The Department of Justice investigation into APD has another police department reviewing its police shootings.

The City of Phoenix says it’s looking through five years of data on police shootings to learn what can be done better and avoiding potential legal trouble.

Phoenix police shot 31 people last year, the most in one year since 2002.

The police chief there says they will study what lead up to the violent confrontations.

He ordered the study after seeing the feds scrutinize police departments across the west in Albuquerque, Las Vegas, and Seattle.
