City of Belen to invest in flood control

BELEN, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Belen is investing a lot of money into a problem that has been plaguing it for years.

The area along Camino Del Llano floods pretty much every time there is a heavy rain.

Mud from the mesa flows down the road, the main exit from the interstate and not only endangers drivers, but cuts off some businesses.

Now the city is investing a million dollars into new flood control in that area.

It’s a project they struggled to pay for before in part because it required the city to buy up some expensive land.

The city hopes, this investment will also help the efforts to build a hospital in the area.

Construction will start later this year and take six months to a year. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
