APD silent on latest police shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A week after Albuquerque’s police chief said he sent a lapel camera off to see if the officer ever turned it on before he shot and killed a 19-year-old woman, APD has been dead silent on the shooting.

KRQE News 13 asked again when we will find out if Officer Jeremy Dear turned his camera on like he said he did before he shot Mary Hawkes following a chase near Central and Wyoming 10 days ago.

There’s no video of the shooting in which Dear says Hawkes pointed a gun at him.

APD sent the camera to its manufacturer, Taser, to see if Dear really did turn it on. And if he did, can the company retrieve any video from it?

News 13 will continue to monitor the situation stay with KRQE for updates.
