ABQ businessman to buy Rio Rancho golf course

RIO RANCHO, (KRQE) – A deal to purchase the Chamisa Hills golf course and country club in Rio Rancho was finalized Thursday.

Jhett Browne who owns the farmers markets stores in Albuquerque is purchasing the property.

Several other buyers had shown interest but many say they couldn’t afford the city’s recent jump in water rates.

Browne plans to create as many as 50 jobs and will rename the facility Club Rio Rancho.

The sale is a relief to those living nearby they were afraid the golf course would be sold off for the land and turned into homes.
