NM corrections officer accused of drug smuggling

OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A New Mexico corrections officer is on the other side of the law this afternoon.

Federal prosecutors say 37-year-old Luis Delgadillo is one of six people who participated in a scheme to smuggle drugs into the Otero County prison.

According to the criminal complaint the FBI began its investigation in January after receiving information from the corrections department that Delgadillo was bringing in heroin and meth.

The other people involved in the case are two women from New Mexico and three inmates.

A federal magistrate has ordered Delgadillo to be detained until trial.
